Kinesiology Graduate, PTA, Athlete, Blogger, Food Lover
My name is Aaliyah Corbin and I created this page to spread awareness, share stories and connect individuals who have Arthritis. As you may know, there are many different types of Arthritis, so the purpose of this blog is to educate. I am from Montreal but I currently live in Toronto, Canada. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of 7 and like any child, it was scary. I couldn't imagine why I would have it at such a young age and why I wasn't like any other child. For me, I always felt limited. Before I would even try something I would ask myself: is this even possible? Now, in 2019 and soon approaching 2020, I want to share my story. I created @ARTHRITISMOVEMENT on Instagram a few days before my birthday and told myself that even if it was a slow start, I am still doing something positive. I was never ashamed of having Arthritis but I didn't know anyone else with the same experiences. The more I got involved, I learned that 1 in 4 women have arthritis. In the summer of 2019, I had an amazing opportunity to volunteer for the Arthritis Society. Working with children has always been something I wanted to do but being able to also share my experiences with Arthritis made it more exciting.
I have now, finally, graduated from school and one of my biggest goals is to speak on a panel. Being a graduate student from York University's Kinesiology & Health Sciences (Hons.) program, I have the knowledge to successfully help individuals physical performance along with managing injury. From shadowing a Physiotherapist, Chiropractor, Acupuncturist and Occupational therapist, I have experience with the dynamics of working in a clinical and hospital setting. I have recently gotten the opportunity to work full time at Lifemark, working as a Physiotherapy Assistant/Kin (https://www.lifemark.ca/Church-Street/our-team). In the near future, I plan on taking the Kinesiology Ontario exam to be registered and....from there, who knows but IM EXCITED!
If you or anyone you know has Arthritis, please feel free to contact me. @ARTHRITISMOVEMENT represents individuals living with arthritis. These individuals share their stories about what it is like being apart of the Arthritis community and the many challenges they are faced with. The Arthritis Movement is a safe space to meet individuals going through the same hardships.
